NeighborWorks Umpqua is a private, rural nonprofit organization working to enhance lives for Oregon residents in Curry, Douglas, Coos, and Josephine County. NeighborWorks Umpqua works to connect Southwest Oregon residents with programs, resources, and services that help them improve their lives and enhance local communities. In light of current events in Curry County, we want to highlight three different services that would help homeowners in our service area: our Home Repair programs, our Foreclosure Prevention programs, and our Dream$avers program.
NeighborWorks Umpqua’s Home Repair program has two offerings: a DIY Home Repair and Home Repair Grants. Our Do-It-Yourself Home Repair program can help to reduce the costs of repairs through homeowners providing the work. We assist eligible homeowners in finding and securing financing and other resources to pay for materials and the repair costs that cannot safely be done by homeowners. This program is funded in part by USDA Rural Development Self Help Housing program, and certain restrictions apply. In addition to our Do-It-Yourself program, we also administer Home Repair grant programs that assist eligible homeowners to make repairs to homes. Home Repair grants are often limited to specific areas or have other criteria. Please check back often or join our mailing list to be notified about grant availability. Whenever possible we work with local weatherization assistance providers to leverage our grant funds and maximize the benefit to eligible homeowners.
NeighborWorks Foreclosure Prevention programs are centered in educating our community on the mortgage process. If you’re worried about missing your mortgage payment or you have a foreclosure sale date, NeighborWorks Umpqua provides free foreclosure intervention counseling to help you keep your home. Work with a foreclosure intervention counselor and know what options are available to help you avoid foreclosure. Most homeowners don’t have any problems with their mortgage servicer until they start missing payments. Once a payment is missed, the process can get very stressful and frustrating. Foreclosure intervention counseling can help you learn what type of assistance your financial situation is most suited for. You will also learn which programs you may be eligible for and develop a spending plan that’s tailored to your needs. Our goal is to help you avoid foreclosure. NeighborWorks Umpqua is HUD approved and all counselors have received certification in foreclosure prevention and default counseling.
NeighborWorks Umpqua has a program that will quadruple your money if you’re saving for college, starting a business, enrolling in a job training program, buying a home, or if you are saving money to repair or maintain your home. Dream$avers is an Individual Development Account (IDA) program designed to help Oregon residents reach for a brighter future. This program matches every dollar you save, up to $3,000, with another $3 dollars. This 3 to 1 match will see your $3,000 deposit matched with $9,000 thanks to the IDA from NeighborWorks Umpqua. In addition, as a Dream$aver you receive education and training to help you meet your financial goals, start a business, plan your career, or purchase or repair a home. In order to qualify you must be 12 years or older, an Oregon resident, meet household income and net worth limits, and be willing and able to save for 6-36 months.
