Through our mission, volunteers for Coastline Neighbors provide members with essential assistance such as transportation, errands, companionship, and technology support. However, during this time we are forced to make temporary changes to our operations out of concern for the health and safety of both our members and volunteers.
Until further notice, Coastline Neighbors is suspending all scheduled events, non-medical transportation, in-home friendly visitation, and in-home tasks. We will continue to provide reassurance calls, transportation for medical appointments, weekly shopping, along with the delivery of medication and grocery. Volunteers cannot shop for or deliver medical cannabis, recreational cannabis, or alcoholic beverages, nor can they provide one meal pick-up/deliveries from local restaurants or pubs.
Coastline Neighbors recognizes there are many seniors and individuals who need assistance living in the Brookings and Gold Beach areas who are not currently members. Through the generosity of The Ford Family Foundation, Wild Rivers Community Foundation, Oregon Community Foundation, Allcare Health, Advanced Health, and United Way of Southwestern Oregon we are excited to be able to waive our membership fees and help those who are not members with the delivery of food and medication along with reassurance calls.
We believe there are individuals in our area who would like to help their neighbors during the pandemic and we could use your assistance. Volunteers for Coastline Neighbors are screened through a national background check (which includes sexual assaults and driving records), interview process and training. Once approved the volunteer is covered under our secondary insurance policy while they are providing services. It should be noted that we also complete a background check on our members to give peace of mind to the volunteers.
Other benefits to volunteering for Coastline Neighbors are that we provide clear guidance for service, which ensures safe practices for both volunteers and members. These include:
- Safe contact protocols for everyone
- A guideline for purchases
- Procedures for phone checks with members regarding their safety and needs. The reassurance calls also provide voice contact for those members who are socially isolated.
If you are interested in membership or volunteering please give us a call.
