New Community Coalition is working with the Nancy Devereux Center, local police departments, and volunteers to develop a bike refurbishing work area where used or unclaimed bikes and parts can be made into usable bikes for homeless persons to use as their transportation vehicle.

The project will provide training for homeless persons interested in working on the project and help them earn income to help pay for daily needs.

Coordinators are seeking insurance to cover the work space and workers participating in the assembly activities. They are also researching the option to build lockers in different parts of town where the bikes can be stored while the owners are at work, in temporary housing, or other otherwise not using the bike at the time.
